Stealing the River
acrylic on canvas - 48" x 60" - 1997
The idea for this painting did not come from any one story in particular, rather upon thinking about herons and the various characteristics they take on in Barry Lopez writings. I wondered at what point a heron, having been away from the river, might become transluscent or take on the other surrounding colors. How much might water be needed for its restorative blue?
